Nonviolent Communication Nvc

Most conflicts do not arise from ill will, but from poor communication. We use judgmental language ("You're lazy"), which provokes defensiveness. Nonviolent Communication (NVC), created by Marshall Rosenberg, is a model that allows you to talk about difficult matters in a way that builds connection, not walls.

The 4 Steps of the "Language of the Heart"

  1. Observation (without evaluation): "When I see socks on the floor..." (instead of: "When you make a mess again...").
  2. Feelings: "...I feel irritated..." (you are speaking about yourself, not accusing).
  3. Needs: "...because I have a need for order and cooperation." (you discover what is beneath the irritation).
  4. Request: "Would you be willing to put your socks in the laundry basket?" (a specific, doable request, not a demand).

Speak the Language of Empathy

Mindfulness exercises in Corty teach observation without judgment – the first step of NVC. The Emotion Journal helps identify feelings and needs. Build healthier relationships through conscious communication.
