The relationship with yourself is the only relationship guaranteed to last a lifetime. Yet, for many of us, it's a toxic one. The Inner Critic relentlessly points out every mistake, highlights perceived flaws in appearance, and clips your wings. Liking yourself isn't narcissism; it's a prerequisite for mental health.
Get to Know Your Inner Critic
That voice in your head that says: "You're too fat," "You messed up again," "No one will ever love you" – that's not you. It's a collection of remarks you heard in childhood from parents, teachers, or peers. The first step is to separate yourself from that voice. Give it a name (e.g., Grumpy). When it starts talking, say: "Oh, Grumpy is complaining again."
