Do you remember the sound of a hairdryer that puts babies to sleep? It turns out adults don't outgrow it. In a world full of sudden noises (door slamming, dog barking, partner snoring), our brain goes into alert mode at night. Noise acts as an acoustic curtain that masks these sounds, allowing for deeper sleep.
Colors of Noise: Which One is for You?
Noise isn't uniform. Different "colors" indicate different frequency characteristics:
⚪ White Noise
This is a sound containing all audible frequencies at equal intensity. It sounds like static on an old TV or a fan. It's very effective at masking, but for some people, it can be too "sharp" and hissing (too many high frequencies).
