How Does It Work Without Wires?

Most apps (including those on smartwatches like Apple Watch) use an accelerometer (detects movement) and a microphone (detects snoring/breathing), as well as a heart rate monitor, to estimate sleep stages:

  • Light Sleep (NREM 1 & 2): Heart rate slows, body relaxes.
  • Deep Sleep (NREM 3 - Delta): Crucial for physical regeneration. The body is almost motionless.
  • REM (Dream Sleep): Heart rate speeds up, eyes move, body is paralyzed (atonia). Important for mental health.
