Jacobson Progressive Relaxation

If Autogenic Training is working with the mind (suggestion), then Edmund Jacobson's Progressive Relaxation is pure work with the body. This method, developed in the 1920s, is based on a simple premise: the mind cannot be restless if the body is relaxed. It is physiologically impossible.

Mechanism: Tense and Release

Many people live in a state of chronic muscle tension that they don't even notice (e.g., clenched jaws, raised shoulders). Jacobson discovered that to relax a muscle, you first need to... tense it very strongly. Only the contrast between extreme tension and sudden relaxation allows the brain to "notice" the difference and release the blockage.

Relax Every Muscle with Corty

To correctly perform a Jacobson session, you need someone to time the tension and release phases, allowing you to focus only on the sensations. In the Corty app, you'll find a guided PMR (Progressive Muscle Relaxation) session. Our narrator will guide you through your entire body, ensuring the right pace and reminding you to breathe. It's physiotherapy for your nervous system.
