The lights are out, your head hits the pillow, and your brain decides it's prime time for an internal monologue. You start dissecting every conversation from the past week, planning next year's vacation, or replaying embarrassing moments. This "monkey mind" is the most common reason for insomnia. How to silence it and finally fall asleep?
The Paradox of Trying to Sleep
The harder you try to fall asleep, the more awake you become. This is because "trying" is an active mental process, driven by anxiety ("I MUST sleep now, or tomorrow will be a disaster!"). Your brain interprets this as stress, releasing cortisol, which is precisely what keeps you awake.
"Brain Dump": Empty Your Mental RAM
Just before going to bed, take 10-15 minutes to write down everything that's on your mind. All your worries, to-do lists, brilliant ideas. Get it all out of your head and onto paper (or a digital document). This signals to your brain that these thoughts are "saved" and don't need to be actively processed anymore.
